The main goals of this action are to reduce the risk of high‑intensity wildfires in vulnerable forests and to lessen the impact of herbivory by domestic and wild ungulates on habitats under pressure.
Through the use of prescribed burns and mechanical clearing in strategic points with wildfire risk, interventions are planned on approximately 50 hectares, helping protect nearly 2,000 hectares of black pine habitat.
Similarly, actions will be carried out to reduce herbivory pressure using a range of techniques, some of them experimental: understory restoration, recovery of pastures near forests affected by grazing pressure from domestic livestock, exclusion of livestock from mature or overgrazed stands, creation of exclusion fences for wild ungulates, and understory restoration within these fenced areas.
Seven strategic sectors have been identified between the Cadí and the Alt Pirineu for pasture improvement, helping reduce the pressure that domestic livestock has exerted in certain parts of the black pine habitat.
