On 20 June, we organized a Bioblitz in the Urús Mountain area (Cerdanya), a citizen science event aimed at improving knowledge of the biodiversity associated with black pine forests.
The activity took place at the Cortal d’en Vidal Refuge, within the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, and gave participants the opportunity to discover the biological richness of these mountain ecosystems through fieldwork alongside specialists in different groups of organisms. Throughout the day, observations and surveys were carried out on birds, small mammals, fungi, reptiles, flora, orthopterans, moths, other insect groups and bats, providing a comprehensive overview of the forest’s biodiversity.
The event benefited from the collaboration of several scientific and naturalist organizations, as well as the support of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park and the Urús Town Council. In particular, we were fortunate to draw on the expertise of colleagues from the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), the Catalan Orthoptera Study Group (Antaxius), the Catalan Lepidopterology Society (SCL), the Catalan Herpetology Society (SCH), all linked to the Catalan Institution of Natural History (ICHN), as well as the Geobotany and Vegetation Mapping Research Group (GEOVEG-UB), the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF), and the Catalan Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (CBMS).
The event brought together more than 80 participants, whose involvement contributed to improving scientific knowledge and strengthening the conservation of mountain ecosystems.
